Baseball finally joined the ranks of the modern world today as it finally started using instant replay in an albeit very limited way to determine whether or not a home run is indeed a home run or merely a foul ball.
And in a fitting and incredibly ironic way the team that has benefitted unbelievably by not having replays in the past was involved in it's first ever decision. That's right the Bronx Bastards AKA Yankees to those of you who for some reason still insist on rooting for them watched the umpires confirm that a ball hit by the current third baseman for the team was a home run.
You may recall the other home / not home runs in the past that all involved this same team and how all the rulings went in their favor and all those rulings were proven wrong by the then unused replay cameras.
One can only hope the pendulum will eventually swing the other way.

Or a disgusted fan of baseball happy that a loophole as big as the Bronx has been closed. At least from now on all teams will have to earn their home runs.
As for jealousy I have never gloated when the team I root for does better than your team even though most fans of your team do when it is the other way around.

Actually, how often have you REALLY had a chance to gloat? 2 years maybe...... If the Mets made it to the playoffs enough, they would get their fair share of calls too. It's just they haven't been there very often. And it doesn't even matter this year because no one in the National League can beat the Angels or Red Sox this year anyway.
You are right on that point. But it also proves my point and that is that umpires are only human and will lean toward the supposedly better teams when it comes to close calls.
As for the Angels and Sox I quote an old sage of baseball-dom "It ain't over till it's over!"

So, are we to believe that the Mets might finally win this year? My guess is no. It may take hitting to get you to the playoffs but pitching wins playoffs and the Mets do not have that. After Santana they really do not have a dependable starter. Oh well, there's always football!
Pitching by all means wins games but how often have you seen 3 to 2 or 2 - nothing games? Both teams could boast great pitching but the guys with the timely hits won. The Mets are at a disadvantage on the mound this year but OMG are the bats starting to wake up!
But in a short series anything can happen and hope springs eternal.
And yup, there is always football.
I never thought I'd see another team go down in flames after last years Mets but I guess I was wrong! Wow, what a choke. And then to have a celebration after that was a joke. I guess the Mets are trying to do their bast to make people forget about the Yankees loss to the Red Sox a few years ago. I know I have! Oh well, fore!!!
The Mets' fate this year rested almost solely on the shoulders and arms of their pen. Unfortunately in this case the sword would have been far mightier!
The celebration was for the ages and while it would have been nicer to hold it after a victory you take what you can get. Imagine if they told the fans that they were canceling it because of the loss. Although if they had they could have saved a lot of money on the demolition of Shea - the fans would have ripped the place apart. Then with the money they saved they could go out and pay for a RELIEF PITCHER. (How many days until pitchers and catchers report?)
On to a few more rounds of golf and football.
